Howdy From Rowdy!
Howdy, my name is Rowdy and I'm the newest addition to the Avent family. I'm one year old now and I'm big enough to be just a little Rowdy. See the gleam in my eye?

My mom, "Moochie Momma", was saved by my parents the day before she was scheduled to be put down at the local pound. I'm sure glad my mom Eve saw her that day and saved her life or I wouldn't be here to pester everybody and have fun! My momma Moochie Momma is part Yorkie and part Chihuahua better known as a Chorkie. She wasn't a really good mother, in fact, she wouldn't even feed me!
My dad "Action Jackson" is a party poodle. He's also the alpha dog at my house.

Action Jackson
From my dad's name you can guess why I was born. I also love my parents Jon and Eve and now that I'm bigger I get to go to work every day with my dad Jon at Twistavants.

My daddy, Action Jackson, also works at Twistavants. It's a fun job, we get to meet all the customers that stop by to shop for a candle. My other family members are all rescues. I got my name Rowdy because I guess I'm just a little rowdy and mischievous.
I run all over the house causing trouble and pestering Calvin who is the bully of our bunch.

Calvin
I love pestering him because he's such a bully. He tries to chase me down and show me who's the boss but he is just too old and too slow. But sometimes he cuts me off at the pass and all I can do is fall down and roll over on my back and say "Yes Sir"!
Calvin's brother, Arthur, loves me so we have a lot of fun playing.

Arthur

Millie Mouse
Millie Mouse likes me a lot also; she was rescued from a puppy mill that just threw her away when she got too old. She knew ALL about puppies and how to take care of them.

Charlie Tuna
Charlie is low man on the totem pole since he can't see very well. Even with not being able to see he still makes his way outside every day. He never causes any trouble at all. We all pick on Charlie and that's just the way it is!

Ernie
My mom's favorite was Ernie. He was the King of causing TROUBLE at our house but he passed away this year right after I was born. So my goal is to carry the torch for him and I think I'll do a good job being mischievous.

Monkey and Me
I love my Monkey, we play every day.

Avent Family
Jon and Eve Avent, my mom and dad, have rescued abandon animals for over 15 years and have always supported a local no-kill shelter called "The Haven" http://www.havenacs.org/ The Haven finds loving homes for dogs and cats that have been thrown away or just forgotten. For many years Twistavants poured a charity candle called Hot Butter Rum with all the proceeds going to The Haven. My mom and dad are going to change the scent to Vanilla Bean so all you folks that love animals can buy a candle to enjoy as well as help all my abandon friends that need a loving home.

My parents give all the proceeds to the Haven. Our motto at Twistavants is
"We can all start with saving the lives of helpless animals... "One life at a time"
The owners of "The Haven", Joe and Dr. Brenda Wilbanks are the most wonderful and giving people you will ever meet. They started The Haven saving dogs and cats just because it was the right thing to do. They have made so many sacrifices to keep The Haven open absorbing all of the expense out of their own pocket. Now they have made such a difference that so many kind people in Lubbock are donating their time and money to help. They started small and have now grown into a large operation that needs your help and support. In addition to providing shelter for companion animals, The Haven's programs include educating the community about the value of animals and the importance of spaying. The pet therapy program is designed to bring about the goal of promoting respect for all of God's creatures. The Haven has previously been involved in pet therapy programs in nursing homes and a variety of other settings. Dr. Wilbanks also incorporates pet therapy into her private practice.
The purpose of "Pets as Pals" is to provide a therapeutic activity for children with special needs. Pet therapy is especially beneficial to children who have suffered losses in their lives due to separation from family, physical or other disabilities, and other factors. Allowing children the opportunity to interact with pets facilitates the development of empathy, an important lifelong skill for children. Interaction with animals also teaches responsibility, nurturing skills, and the give and take aspect of building relationships. In return, animals provide unconditional love, companionship, and constancy.
So you see, there are many people in the world that can and are making a difference! If you ever travel to Lubbock or you live here be sure and stop by and come see me.

Rowdy Licious - cause I'm just so doggone delicious!
Here are my baby pictures!

We also like Pits! They really get a bad rap as being dangerous dogs. One of our best friends we like hanging out with is Indee Girl.

Pits
Now does she look dangerous to you? Maybe if you were a biscuit. When we get together we love watching our favorite show on Animal Planet called Pit Boss. Shorty Rossi is our hero! Our other favorite show on National Geographic is Dogtown. There is much to be learned from the dogs featured in "Dogtown." "The 'Dogtown' series captures the real spirit of why we do what we do," says Paul Berry, Best Friends' chief executive officer. "These brave little ones who overcome such odds to survive and thrive - every one of them give us a lesson in courage, love and perseverance."
We love cats too!
Here is Maynard. He's a very special cat with a very special story

Maynard
Maynard was delivered at home. He was a breech birth that my dad worked hard to get him delivered out his tiny Siamese mom. Maynard is a talker; he is always telling you what for with a meow meow and then some. In 2005 my parents bought a new home and moved to the other side of Lubbock. They waited until all the furniture had been moved and were completely finished before they took Maynard and Daisy to their new home. Maynard did not like the move one bit and was very upset to say the least. When we finally decided to at least open the garage door and let him check out the neighborhood he was out the door and gone! We looked and looked for months to no avail. Our only hope and prayer was that he would find his way back to our old house.
After many tears we finally decided to move on with our lives knowing we would never see him again. Well, you should always remember "Never say Never". Our dear friend and tile master Ronnie Wood who had helped us with many of our remolding jobs came back for a visit. Ronnie had moved away over a year ago to help take care of his dad. On that one special weekend Ronnie decided to visit Lubbock and he stopped by to see a friend. She started complaining to Ronnie about this stray cat that was sleeping under the boat in the alley. She told Ronnie that she was getting ready to call the pound and have him picked up.
As soon as Maynard saw Ronnie he knew who he was and started meowing telling him "Take Me Home"! Ronnie also recognized Maynard and called us to say "Guess What"? Maynard had been gone 20 months and to find him still in good health was a miracle! Now Maynard sits with dad, goes with him to shower and waits with me each and every morning. And he is always waiting for dad to pull in the driveway from work and here he comes meowing to say hello.

Daisy
My mom's sister Kathy Freeman found Daisy. She is a rescue kitten that was found out behind an old store in Albuquerque, New Mexico lost and hungry. After we lost Kathy in 2001 we brought Daisy home to live with us.
Daisy is a mess! She knows she is the queen bee around our house and is a bit demanding to say the least! When it's time or simply she has decided she is ready to EAT, it is our job in life to jump up and prepare her dinner ASAP! To ignore her is futile! She will start with one Meow and a hard stare. If you have not started moving that way the claws pop out next. She always makes sure you see the claws before she uses them. And if all else fails and you're still seated and not running to feed her then "Bam" the claws start their deadly attack on the chair or whatever she decides needs a claw. And this goes on until she wins and gets just what she wants.
We even have a wildcat that stops by for a meal. His name is T Rex. He thinks he's bad but not really, he loves getting lovings.

T-Rex
And always remember:
"You can all start with saving the lives of helpless animals..." "One life at a time"
